Signs
As you travel North Carolina's and the nation’s roadways you will see hundreds of different signs. These signs provide
drivers with information they need to navigate and arrive at their destination safely. All drivers must understand that
signs serve many purposes. Each traffic sign has been given a specific shape and color making it possible for drivers to
recognize and identify them at a glance and at greater distances. Signs also display symbols and words or a
combination of both. You read word messages left to right and from top to bottom. Signs:
WARN
GUIDE
INFORM of local regulations and practices.
REGULATE the speed and movement of traffic.
